Frequently Asked Questions

How much does stump grinding cost?  Most stump grinding jobs typically range between $250 and $375, depending on the size of the stump, its location, and how much cleanup is required. Every property is different, so the best way to get an accurate estimate is to text a photo of the stump.

Do you remove the debris after grinding the stump?  Yes I can. Many stump grinding companies leave the pile of wood chips and soil behind. Because I use a tractor with a bucket, I can remove the debris completely and haul it away if requested. This leaves your yard much cleaner and ready for your next project.

How big is the debris pile after stump grinding?  Many homeowners are surprised that the debris pile can be 2–3 times larger than the original stump. Grinding a stump creates a mixture of wood chips and soil. With my equipment, I can remove this debris if you'd prefer a clean finish.

Will stump grinding damage my lawn?  My equipment uses tires instead of tracks, which are generally much gentler on lawns than track-style stump grinders. I also take care when entering and exiting your yard to minimize any disturbance.

How deep do you grind the stump?  The depth depends on what you plan to do with the area.
  • Shallow grind (approximately 4"-6") – ideal if you plan to plant grass
  • Deeper grind (approximately 6"-14")– recommended if you want to plant a tree or shrub in the same location
I will recommend the best option based on your plans.

Do you charge by the hour?  No. I price by the job, not by the hour.  Hourly pricing can end up costing homeowners more.  By pricing the job itself, you know exactly what the project will cost before we begin.

Do you charge by the inch of the stump?  No.  Many companies price by the inch, but every job is different.  Accessibility, root structure, cleanup, and terrain all affect the work involved.  I price the entire job fairly based on the situation.

Can you help with other yard work while you're here?  Yes.  My tractor is equipped with attachments that allow me to help with additional property work such as:
  • brush pile removal
  • grapple work
  • debris cleanup
  • moving logs or wood piles
  • spreading topsoil
Many homeowners appreciate being able to handle multiple projects during one visit.

How quickly can you schedule a job?  I aim to respond quickly and schedule jobs as soon as possible. The easiest way to start is to text a photo of the stump and your address so I can provide an estimate and availability.

Do I need to be home during the job?  Not necessarily.  As long as I can access the stump and we’ve agreed on the scope of work, many customers prefer to handle everything remotely.

What happens to the stump after grinding?  Once the stump is ground below the soil level, the remaining roots will naturally decay underground over time.

Do you bring topsoil and grass seed?  Yes.  If you'd like the area restored, I can bring topsoil and grass seed to help the lawn grow back after the stump is removed.

How do I get a quote?  The fastest way is to text a photo of the stump along with your address.  860-250-8284 I can often give a rough estimate quickly based on the picture.

Do you serve areas outside the Farmington Valley?  Yes.  I serve the entire Farmington Valley and surrounding towns, including Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, and nearby communities.  If your town isn't listed, reach out to me and I'll let you know if I can help.
